Specimen Blood

Minimum Volume 4.5 mL

Container Light blue top (sodium citrate) tube

Collection Mix well and send immediately to the laboratory on ice. Must be delivered to the laboratory within 1 hour of collection. If testing is delayed, centrifuge specimen, remove, and freeze plasma (-30°C).

Storage Instructions Transport specimen to the laboratory immediately on ice. Freeze plasma at -30°C if sample cannot be processed immediately.

Causes for Rejection Clotted or hemolyzed specimen, heparin contamination, improperly filled specimen tube, tube not iced, delay more than 1 hour in delivery to the laboratory, specimen does not meet labeling requirements

Reference Range 50% to 150%
