Specimen Blood

Minimum Volume 4.5 mL

Container Light blue top (sodium citrate) tube

Collection Mix well and send immediately to the laboratory on ice. Must be delivered to the laboratory within 4 hours of collection. If testing is delayed, centrifuge specimen, remove, and freeze plasma (-30°C).

Storage Instructions Separate plasma in refrigerated centrifuge. Test within 1-2 hours. Freeze plasma at -30°C if test cannot be performed in 1-2 hours.

Patient Preparation Avoid Coumadin® therapy for 2 weeks and heparin therapy for 2 days prior to test.

Causes for Rejection Specimen clotted, hemolyzed, QNS, or received more than 1 hour after collection; tube not full; specimen does not meet labeling requirements

Reference Range 50% to 150%
