Special Instructions The following information must be provided to the laboratory for the proper processing of the specimen: specific site or specimen, current antibiotic therapy, age and sex of patient. Collection time and date, physician's name and pager number and clinical diagnosis.

Volume 30-30mL voided urine, NOT midstream

Minimum Volume 10 mL

Container DNA/RNA Protect Orange cap container

Collection Collect the first 30-50 mL ( NOT midstream) urine into special RNA/DNA collection container.

Storage Instructions Transport specimen to the laboratory immediately.

Causes for Rejection Specimen not received in appropriate collection device. Excessive delay in transport. Leaking specimens and inadequate volume. If an unacceptable specimen is received, the nursing station will be called and another specimen will be requested before disposal of the original specimen.
