Special Instructions The following information must be provided to the laboratory for the proper processing of the specimen: specific site or specimen, current antibiotic therapy, age, sex of patient. Collection time and date, physicians and pager number and clinical diagnosis.
Specimen Endocervical swab

Container Culture swab, collection and transport culture system.
Collection Do not use lubricant on speculum, cervical mucus should be removed first before inserting swab into endocervical canal. Move swab from side to side allowing several seconds for absorption of organisms by the swab. Return swab to the transport tube and label.
Storage Instructions Transport specimen to the laboratory immediately.
Causes for Rejection Specimen not received in appropriate collection device. Excessive delay in transport. If an unacceptable specimen is received, the nursing station will be called and another specimen will be requested before disposal of the original specimen.
Reference Range No growth or commensal flora
Use Isolate and identify N.gonorrhoea and other pathogenic organisms presents as a predominant species.
