Use Ketone bodies consist of acetoacetic acid, beta-hydroxybutyric acid and acetone. Under condition of liver glycogen depletion (starvation, diabetes, prolonged vomiting, severe diarrhea in children, von Gierke's disease, high fat diet and low carbohydrate diet) the oxidation of these compounds of fat metabolism is arrested so that they accumulate in the blood (ketonemia).
