Use Diagnose ketonemia, ketoacidosis resulting from diabetes mellitus, alcoholism, stress, starvation, intestinal disorders (including emesis), glycogen storage disease (von Gierke's), infantile organic acidemias, and other metabolic disorders. Determination of presence of ketones is useful when isopropanol ingestion is suspected. Since test reacts more strongly to acetoacetate than acetone, serum ketone may go up before they go down despite an improvement in overall metabolic states.

Methodology Nitroprusside reaction
